United States
In the United States, Huachuma is still facing legal challenges with its recognition as a religious sacrament in sacred ceremonies, though some states and municipalities are honoring its traditional use. We are not offering any Huachuma ceremonies in the United States. Our annual retreat to Peru is the only opportunity we have to commune with this sacred plant in its homeland, the Andes mountains.
Arizona Peyote Ceremonies
Consistent with our commitment to honor the legal frameworks in place for working with these sacred cacti, we do offer Peyote Spirit Walks in Arizona for sincere seekers who align with our religious use of Peyote. The Peyote traditions of Mexico and the Huachuma traditions of the Andean highlands have been energetically intertwined for millennia, sharing many of the same cosmological beliefs and practices. Both of these cactus contain the same primary alkaloid. For seekers in Arizona, we offer a limited number of Peyote Spirit Walks every year.
Our Peyote Spirit Walks are conducted under the protection of Arizona’s religious use exemption. While federal law restricts the use of Peyote, Arizona Revised Statute Ann. sec.13-3402B provides a legal defense for the religious use of Peyote when it is:
- Connected to the bona fide practice of a religious belief
- An integral part of a religious exercise
- Used in a manner not dangerous to public health, safety, or morals
As experienced ceremonialists dedicated to the sacred use of Peyote, our ceremonies fall within this protected religious practice. However, we emphasize that participation in our ceremonies is a serious spiritual undertaking, not to be approached casually. To affirm the sincerity of your religious intent, all participants are required to sign a Declaration of Religious Belief before joining our ceremonies and complete screening. This declaration acknowledges Peyote as an essential and inseparable part of your spiritual practice. In addition, all participants must follow specific preparatory guidelines to ensure a healthy and safe experience.
We are committed to conducting our ceremonies with the utmost respect for both the law and the sacred nature of this ancestral medicine. Our goal is to provide a safe, legal, and profoundly meaningful spiritual experience for those called to this path.
Peyote Spirit Walks: A Sacred Journey of the Soul
Embark on a transformative spiritual odyssey that compresses lifetimes of wisdom into a single, profound day. The Peyote Spirit Walks are not mere ceremonies; they are sacred pilgrimages of the heart and soul, sanctioned under Arizona’s religious use exemption.
As dawn’s first light kisses the Arizona landscape, we begin our holy journey. A short, meditative hike leads us to our consecrated grounds, where we create a sanctuary of comfort amidst nature’s raw beauty. Here, beneath the vast sky, we open ourselves to the whispers of the ancients and the songs of the earth.
The ceremony unfolds around four sacred altars, each a gateway to divine understanding. We honor the cardinal directions, pay homage to the elemental forces, and lift our voices in prayers of gratitude, clarity, unity, and love. Our songs rise with the sun, our offerings blend with the soil, creating a tapestry of devotion that stretches from earth to sky.
Central to our spiritual practice is the sacrament of Peyote, a powerful entheogen revered for millennia. This ancestral medicine of North America serves as our holy communion, a bridge between the physical and the divine. It opens our hearts to the Great Mystery, allowing for a profound connection to the source of all being. As a religious sacrament, our use of Peyote is protected under Arizona law, acknowledging the depth and sincerity of our spiritual tradition.
This is not a journey for the casual seeker. It is a calling—a sacred rite for those who yearn for genuine spiritual awakening and connection. All who participate must affirm their sincere religious intent, joining us in this ancient and protected practice.
As the day wanes and the ceremony concludes, participants often find themselves profoundly changed. They carry with them not just memories, but a renewed spirit, deeper insights, and a strengthened connection to the divine tapestry of existence.
Join us for a Peyote Spirit Walk—where the boundaries between self, nature, and the Great Mystery dissolve, revealing the interconnected beauty of all creation.
